Gregor, totally excellent post. I lost my response to your thoughts and it was too wordy anyway. Basically, the Jesus come into my heart prayer that most generic born-agains first prayed has always been a great mystery to me. I now think the prayer itself
is the contract of which you speak.

In my search for truth I came to view God's covenants in a similar way, not from my own brilliance but with the help of others. I came to believe that contracts and covenants are different in several ways.

IMHO Gods covenants:
1) Are everlasting.
2) We don't get to negotiate the terms.
3a) We can't keep them (no matter how we try).
3b) We can't break them (just ourselves in defiance).
