What If…Sarah Palin Had Said the Constitution Was “Over 100 Years Old”

John on December 31, 2010 at 4:40 am

That’s what Ezra Klein said yesterday on MSNBC:

Now imagine if Sarah Palin had said this in the same off-hand way. Do you think folks like Ezra’s pal at the Post, Greg Sargent, might be all over this. I’m certain of it. In fact, in a parallel universe where Palin did say it, Keith Olbermann ran the following Worst Person of the World segment highlighting her gaffe:

Sarah Palin is back with another gaffe. Yesterday, she offered some of her sagacious insight into American history when she told viewers during a television interview that, quote, the constitution is over 100 years old, unquote. Apparently she believes it was adopted some time in the 19th century, perhaps after the civil war.

She went on to say its age was why no one really understood it. Well, no, Sarah, that may be why you don’t understand it, but the rest of us are doing just fine with the text which is in English!

[Dramatic head swivel to camera B]

Sarah, who has a book out called America by Heart, might want to try reading something beside the corn flakes box. The Constitution was adopted September 17, 1787, making it over 200 years old, 223 to be exact. You’d think a former governor might know these things, but I guess the details don’t matter when you have a steady gig on Fox and a hit reality show. Well, at least we now know why the book wasn’t called America by Head.

Can you here modern day Murrow ranting it? I can. But since in our universe it wasn’t Sarah, but Journolist founder, MSNBC contributor and all around wonder-boy Ezra Klein, well, you know. Nothing to see here.
