Yes, unwanted pregnacies can have life-changing effects. Pregnacy always changes livesanywaY. I think we should get away from the idea that life is a game, our bodies are playthings with no consequences for what we do. That seems to be a common attitude today and people are encouraged to think in unrealistic ways in our culture.

And no, in making a comment like the above about our societies thinking on these issues, I'm not attacking you. So don't get defensive about it.

When in our lifetimes were forced sterilizations performed in this country?

Oh, it was a couple decades before our births ... I think. But thats still pretty recent history and all history is worth learning from. After all, times change but human nature doesn't.
