It was most assuredly an honest question. A question that was based directly on the assertions made and quoted. It made an assumption yes but it was both grammatically legitimate and appropriate to the context.
I'll see your question and raise you three more. :)
Do you know what Spiritualism is? Are you familiar with the practices of Shamanism? Are you aware of the difference between spirit and the individual spirit beings of Animism?

Such a "declarative question" is not a declarative question strictly by virtue of having that format. It must also BE a declarative question as in having the intention to sincerely receive a yes or a no for information purposes (which is why questions are asked). In this instance, no information was sought, and no sincerity was involved. If it had been a sincere question, it would have covered what I had ACTUALLY said rather than introducing two declaratives that were completely invented by him in order to insult and disparage.

It is amusing to watch him squirm and roll while he strives to make lies appear the truth--when an ordinary and sincere person would simply admit that his primary goal with me is to discredit and to insult and that his primary weapon (lacking any substantial intellectual tools) is opportunism.

Oh well, I must be going out for the wonderful dinner and dance. Undoubtedly he will spend the night searching through grammar articles on the net so he can "prove" that he didn't make up two declarations, attribute them to me, and then ask if I wished to deny them! LOL!

P.S. I see, as well, that he is taking opportunistic advantage of your discussion in order to introduce more dishonesty (which he will then treat as truth!). Now he has claimed I am an "avowed militant atheist"!! (exclamation marks, mine). Do you recall me avowing that I was a "militant atheist"?? Now do you know why I have on occasion called him a dirt-bag and such?

Have a Great New Years! Probably talk tomorrow.
