bb, when the Internet wasn't known as such yet, when there were Usenet forums e.g. rec.games.chess, some social commentator (I forget whom) predicted that all those forums would eventually collapse as the droning of the masses drowned out the relevant voices of the few. That actually happened, and far more quickly than I thought possible. Here, at least ignore can help remove much of the bile that intertwines discussions. But it still happens on many or most SI boards, many which died as a result. What I just read between GST and Russ raises many intelligent points, and the reality is sound bites and political venom simply won't cut it if one is a survivor. And I think if one is not a survivor right now, one is going to find one's hands holding one's head. GST & Russ, thanks for the finest two-party discussion I encountered here on SI in the past decade. --Ben
