<<The way I see it, he was a guy with a lot of talent who couldn't stop his personal failings from invading his public persona>>

I think there's a lot of truth in that statement. I also don't think that's exclusive of Brett Favre. Who amongst us can honestly say that bad decisions and/or personal short comings haven't bitten us at times. I certainly can't and I don't think that's unique to me. I think it's what makes us human and I think it's all part of the journey - the human experience.

The difference is that most of us don't ever live a life under the scrutiny of the dreaded public eye. I think many people wished we'd have lived a life on the "lighted stage." From the outside looking in it sure looks glamorous and financially rewarding. But I can't help but wonder how many of us could have escaped the scrutiny and/or held up under the pressures of that privilege. For the most part, failings and all, Favre flourished. He fell down, got knocked (I'm not speaking literally) and each time still managed to get right back up.

It takes balls and courage to publicly admit personal deficiencies and defeat and still exhibit the moxie to push through adversity. We've all experienced defeat in one way or the other and we've all had to push through it.

The question I have is how many of us are willing to admit that, at times, we buckled under pressure, failed to rise to the occasion and come back to fight the same battle and win? I admire that quality in people (not just athletes) and the reason is because I KNOW I haven't always been able to get back up and persevere.....
