yes i remember that too back in the early 80s i thought silver was a steal at $8 an ounce. if you track the dow from 1982 and appreciate $8 an ounce silver from there. i suspect the number will be a lot more than $30. the dow low in 1982 was 772 if you round that up to 800, that would mean that the price of silver would have to be $115 or so to have kept pace with the dow since 1982.
