Newton was also fascinated with alchemy ... not the "precursor to chemistry" sort, but full-moose mystical quest for the vital principle, the philosophick mercury.
As regards his employability nowadays ... while I do not scoff at your assessment, I wonder. If supporters of Velikovsky can find careers in professional science, why not someone like Newton?
