China's GDP is rapidly approaching the US on a PPP basis -- about 55% of US right now . In a couple of decades or sooner, it will be comfortably above ours. Consequently, they could afford more guns than us.

It's not wise to rely on guns in a globalized world where other countries outnumber you 3 to 1.

In a primal world the possibility exist that those with the guns say "sorry, not only am i not going to pay my debt, i'm going to steal all your gold as well."

Yeah.. bottom line is you seldom try and kill those who owe you tremendous amounts of money, and are the primary customer for your products.

And until China changes from a export driven, versus consumption driven, economy they will be vulnerable to economic shocks in consumer markets.
