Actually, it's the fourth biggest. February 2010, February 2006, and January 1996 were all bigger. The article I read said over 2 feet. Shoot me. That doesn't change the fact that the storm was much bigger than normal. Now why are you having trouble dealing with that fact?If you want to be so hung up on the facts, you really ought to get them right in the first place. > Both gov'ts and companies don't plan for the 30 year or 100 year storm.....they plan for the typical storm because that is far more cost effective. So you're willing to defend the NYC government for not planning for the worst-case scenario (despite it NOT being the worst-case scenario), but you're willing to skewer Bush and Michael Brown for doing the exact same thing during Hurricane Katrina? I am not defending anyone. What I am saying is your attack is unreasonable. Exceptions are always made for force majeures......in fact, contracts usually provide a force majeure provision. There are so many variables when it comes to a major storm like the one that hit NYC, you would have to be superhuman to anticipate and effectively deal with all of them. Bloomberg knows that. The people bitching know what. Nonetheless, that will not stop those people from complaining. The truth is that government has to plan for the worst-case scenario. You're still making s--t up. BS. In the case of Seattle, the worst case scenario would require twenty or more snow trucks to clean the streets, a warehouse full of sand and tons of other equipment for a storm like the one that hit the city in 2008. It was a true 30 year storm. It would be nuts to maintain and pay the administrative costs for such equipment plus keep the staff, needed to run such equipment, on the payroll for the entire winter season in order to meet the needs of a storm that only hits periodically. Neither companies nor gov'ts operate in that manner because its not cost effective. Again, I say....get out in the real world and run something......you will learn lot.
