It's funny you should mention that because just yesterday I watched a Netflix download of a movie called "1492" which depicted Columbus's discovery of the islands he called The West Indies because he thought they were connected to Indian. Hence, Indian became the name by which the indigenous peoples of the Americas were called. Wasn't India originally called Hind? It's one of the oldest if not the very oldest civilizations on earth, and now the world's largest democracy. "Injun Joe" in Huckleberry Finn parlance now seems to be offensive.
