NIA would like to offer its deepest and most heart filled condolences to the families and friends of the victims of Saturday's shooting in Tucson, Arizona. Our prayers are with all of the victims and we pray that the injured have full recoveries.

It is very unfortunate that today's heinous actions by one of the most evil and despicable human beings in world history, will probably cast a negative spotlight on supporters of sound money that is backed by gold and silver.

In our opinion, it is possible that supporters of new currencies that are backed by gold and silver will now be looked at as potential domestic terrorists.

Re: Does anyone think this guy taking out a dozen people, including a 9-year old, at random had anything to do with his political beliefs?

Nope. But it does show what happens when you make devices desinged to make it quick and easy to kill people widely available to anyone.

There are some good arguments for letting people own handguns, but there are also good arguments against letting them do so. This event strengthens the "against" position.

The Fox news / Republican party hatefest deserves a review, too.

The murder rampage in Arizona is a clear reflection of the political climate in America -- it is less than encouraging to see so much squirming around trying to suggest that this is just a lunatic acting out of the blue with no connection to the political and social situation in America.

The insane and cold blooded murder of innocent people in Arizona is simply one more day in the life of America -- a country full of hate, violence, ignorance, weapons and -- yes -- insanity. But like it or not -- this was an American expressing himself pretty much as Americans do every day of the week -- expressing extreme hate and ignorance. Only this guy on this day was carrying the sacred instrument of death that we hold in such high esteem -- a gun.

What happened in Arizona is not disconnected from what America has become -- it was as American as apple pie and the fourth of July. It was a day more than any other that defines the political life of America -- it is the hell hole of American politics -- it was entirely about American politics.

It is also exactly what SI has become.
