Newsbusters won't let the Left get away from their words: Stones, Glass Houses, Etc.: Documenting Liberal Media's Use of 'Violent Rhetoric'

By: Lachlan Markay | January 09, 2011 | 15:00

It has become apparent in the last 24 hours that the mainstream media is bent on attributing some level of blame for yesterday's tragic shooting in Tuscon, Arizona to Sarah Palin. The chief piece of evidence for this claim is a map SarahPAC devised that placed crosshairs over a number of congressional districts the group would target during the 2010 election cycle.

But if violent metaphors in political rhetoric drive crazy people to violence, than the media had better save some blame for themselves, since political reporting is replete with such language (Howard Kurtz noted that fact in his column today). Here are just a few examples:

BRIAN WILLIAMS (Nightly News, October 29, 2008): On our broadcast here tonight, the air war. With just six days to go now, Obama takes to the airwaves tonight in a multimillion-dollar blitz, as McCain keeps swinging, determined to land a punch.

DIANE SAWYER (20/20, October 3, 2008): "Like Cindy McCain, Michelle Obama has also been in the political crosshairs. That comment she made in two stump speeches in Wisconsin one day...."

CHRIS CUOMO (GMA, March 20, 2008): "If we go to a convention, do you think that there's some merit to this idea that the Clinton ground war is too strong and could overwhelm at the convention?"

CHRIS CUOMO (GMA, November 2, 2006): "Senator John Kerry is keeping a low profile after apologizing for remarks that put him in the political crosshairs of both political parties and the President...."

Here's where you all come in, NBers. This is a very incomplete list of these types of statements. Let's scour the archives and dig up as many such examples as we can (keep in mind, that these exclude actual calls for violence, which are not exactly rare among the far-left, and even among mainstream media talkers). If the MSM is really going to assign blame for this type of language, they need to be reminded of the massive glass house they're sitting in.

He was just on Geraldo and denigrated (vitriolic rhetoric) the persons of Sharon Angle of Utah, and Sarah Palin of AK. Just another liberal hypocrite. I swear............they would like us all to just "STFU."

Arizona Sheriff Says He Doesn't Know Why Loughner Shot Giffords And Others But He's Pretty Sure It's Because Of Republicans

UPDATED With Video
This clown, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, just gave an interview to Megyn Kelly on Fox News where he admitted he had no evidence about the Arizona shooting but then went on to speculate it involved Republican opposition to Democrat legislation, unidentified donors to political issue groups and free speech.

Keep in mind, Dupnik isn't just some guy or some local official...he's the lead investigator in this case. Why in the world is publicly speculating about this? It's political hackery and sheer incompetence of the highest order.

[ Elect a liberal Democrat and get politicized "law enforcement". Will we soon hear that there's a radio in Loughner's house that can be tuned to a station broadcasting Rush Limbaugh? Will we find that the Loughner home has a cable package that has the channel Sarah Palin's Alaska show airs on?

Seriously, we can now know that Jared Loughner has no connection to the tea party movement .... why? Because this clown has had deputies all over Loughner's house and you know their assignment would be to try to find some connection to Sarah Palin or the tea partys. If this sheriff hasn't proudly, jubilantly displayed some evidence of Loughner's tie to Palin, tea parties, the GOP, whatever ..... its not there.
]

He also talked about how much he misses the America that existed when he was younger. He's in his mid 70s. So he misses things like Puerto Rican nationalists shooting 5 members of the House on the House floor, John and Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King and on and on.

I don't have a link yet but it was quite a performance. He made similar remarks yesterday. Arizona Senator Jon Kyl smacked him around earlier today for yesterday's partisan attack.

Frank J. from IMAO caught the interview as well and this quote from Dupnik.

Just to reiterate, Sheriff Dupnik puts some of the blame of the shooting on "one party blocking another party from bettering this country."

Here's the interview, if you can stomach it.
