According to FOX yesterday, the only network that was interesting and informative, the last assassination attempt was in I think 1978....also on a house rep.

So there's a dearth of data to reach any conclusions about all these blowhard anti-something groups re attacks on political figures.

The abortion clinic bombings are the only thing that comes to my mind that has a quasi religious-political foundation to it.
Timothy McVeigh was, to me, clearly influenced by the anti-government militia group rhetoric that filled my airwaves at the time. And he was legally sane, fully responsible for his actions. It would take a real stretch though to lay the responsiblity for how he became so angry and neurotic on the Republican Party, imo.

It seems to me it's like tidal surges- they come, they go- they never go away forever
