IPad does what an iPhone will but with the bigger screen.

I have been posting about this on other threads. This is the year of the Tablets. I suspect the cheap ones will get to $49.99 before the year is out. I think the Ipad will continue to lead the pack. People buy it as a luxury item, instead of jewelry, so price doesn't stop them. It's prestige.

You will be told a lot of wrong info by uninformed sales reps. The Ipad will allow you to download books, but if reading is number one with you, I would look at the Nook. You can get Library books downloaded to the Nook via your computer, you can't get them with the Ipad. No Skype with the Ipad. Their phone deal is with Ma Bell and associates.

I see the tablet battle as open vs closed. Ipad is a closed system. You can do wonderful things, but only the ones they allow. Like all Apple products, what they do they do very well.

These Tablets are going to get so cheap that if you don't like the one you buy, give it to someone as a present.

an iPad does all those things. Make sure it is WiFi enabled unless you get an unlimited data plan

Thanks, good points. One of my sons is an "early adaptor", and he advises to wait for the next model - because it will have a camera.

Agree with LB's comment that many people buy IPads the way they buy luxury gadgets. A friend who works hard and makes a lot of money and likes to buy toys purchased one recently. I saw him go on vacation for a few days - and he didn't bother bringing the iPad. He has computers in his office and at home - so, he bought it just because it's a pretty toy.

This is a nice new idea - Lapdock. Convert your iPad into a laptop. I read that Motorolla is coming out with something similar.
