We've had a number of 500 year floods over the past 10-15 years too, both in the US and in other parts of the world, including Australia. What is going on right now over there may well end up qualifying as that.

In any case, no regular contributor to this thread wants to turn it into another "environmentalist" thread--there are enough of those already, the discussions--such as they are--tend to become completely fruitless as both sides harden and tend to repeat the same things over and over ad nauseum, and no one actually becomes educated. We've both had our say, the Australian floods are affecting business worldwide--especially coal and steel--we know that, when (if) it gets to be a 500 year flood we can perhaps talk about it again briefly, but we should try at least to keep climate change arguments mostly off of this particular thread. We've both had our say, enough.
