<<<I didn't see the practical remedy in that opinion piece?>>>

Sorry about that. I am getting too old to be multitasking.

Let me give it another try:

Public Policy should be made without regard to politics. What difference does it make if violence is like what we are discussing now or like all the violence you can dig up committed by people on the other side of the political spectrum. We can't have violence. We should not be defending and making excuses for people who committ violence and more importantly we should not defend and make excuses for people who enable those that committ violence.

The practical remedy is simple.

1. Public shaming or disapproval can't hurt - it could help around the margins.
2. Make it more difficult to acquire weapons - especially for the mentally impaired.
3. Longer term. Education, education, and more and better education. Defending an anti-intellectual worldview is a losing proposition. A better educated populace is the best hope for a democracy

There is no quick solution but there is a solution. We just have to get there sooner rather than later. We will get there. It is inevitable.
