<<Illinois has very high property taxes>>

When I bought my house the property tax on it was $900. Last year it was $5,600. That coat of paint really up graded my house.

California has very low property taxes, due to the Jarvis law.

In thinking of all the things to tax, property seems to me to be one of the best. It's certainly preferable to tax ownership of property instead of taxing work. Sin tax, property tax, and the inheritance tax would all be my favorites. A general sales tax and income tax would be at the bottom.
