"Wisconsin Gov on IL tax vote: 'Escape to Wisconsin'

It's instructive watching the interstate competition to attract jobs and businesses such as this. Happens to other tax and regulatory hells such as CA and NY as well. Competition, checks and balances, Econ 101 in action, all healthy and well and good..

However, when it comes to the federal government, it's a different story. No checks, no balances. People can go bankrupt, businesses can go bankrupt (unless they're Government Motors or "Too big to fail" banks), local governments can go bankrupt, state governments can, too (de facto, and, more than likely, soon to be de jure). The feds, in contrast, can run deficits indefinitely and control the printing press as well, with the ability to crank out more paper "money". We're being "governed" by a junkie with an unlimited supply of heroin.

KLP's post, back aways, laid out the truth of the deficit monster that's lurking and growing and threatening to devour us. Politicians from both parties won't touch it, for fear of being tossed out. There is not (at least yet) enough support from the populace to touch it, either, in any meaningful way.

Ending earmarks and freezing federal salaries are nice touchy feely political exercises, but in the context of the real problem, they're so much whizzing in the wind.

The big two are entitlements (SS and Medicare and now ObamaCare) and military spending. Like it or not (and most people don't), these constitute the bulk of the monster. But it will continue to grow, and IMO, the ultimate consequences of not dealing with the beast today won't be pretty..

There will be no 'Escape to Wisconsin' type remedies to turn to. Leave the US? And go where???
