And again. And again. Think about how we reacted in the weeks after 9/11. This nation came together, if only for a fleeting moment, to mourn and heal. Later, we were still united when we took retribution against those harboring the 9/11 perpetrators. Now think about how we will react when the next 9/11 occurs ... - The right will accuse Obama of being an illegitimate Muslim who encourages terrorism. - The left will accuse the right of fostering a climate of hate and the "bring it on" mentality. - The perpetrators will have smiles on their faces, just like Jared Loughner did in his mug shot. Because to anarchists, lunatics, and terrorists, this is "mission accomplished." Dave, I think this incident should serve as a warning to ALL of us. Stop feeding into the cycle of hate. Some like Ted may be beyond hope, but maybe guys like you will listen. I wasn't kidding (or trolling) when I told Alghieri that the real problem is the rush to judgement. But that's only part of the problem. Here are some examples of what we can do: - Stop accusing Obama of being illegitimate. Or of being a Muslim. He may be a socialist, but big deal, so is most of Europe. - Stop pretending that the Constitution is under assault. Utopians may test the limits of power, but the very fact that they have to "test" those limits is proof that the Constitution remains strong and relevant in this nation. - Stop engaging in debates over who killed the economy. Everyone did. Let's get over it and work on its recovery. - Most of all, start praying. If you don't believe in "invisible super beings" (tm Bentway), that's OK, just pray anyway. It can't hurt, and who knows? Miracles can happen. Maybe then, we can restore some sense of sanity to this great nation. And reduce the chances that another lunatic will be motivated to kill. Or at least take on such lunatics with a firm, moral standing. Tenchusatsu
