My mother was in the ICU at two different hospitals under similar cricumstances, debating whether to keep her on a respirator. Both hospitals provided excellent information and advice, the second time with a counselor whose full-time job was to work with families facing tough choices. So I was a bit surprised to see this come up as a separate Medicare-paid item since it seems like a natural part of elder care anyway. It's such an important subject, it's sad to see it distorted and demagogued by these morons.
