Yes, King is just speaking thoughtlessly. How many people will be in violation without even realizing it? How many people would be forced to take a wide detour because a politician is making a street corner speech?

There are enough cops from various city, state and federal agencies to provide extra protection when needed. The congressman should dedicate some of his office funds to his personal security rather than licking mailers.

Where would it end? Would we eventually have to provide security for political l;oudmouths as well? How about a township councilman? Maybe the PTA president too? Al Sharpton?

A federal law to keep guns 1000 yards away from schools was unambiguously ruled unconstitutional. So unless SCOTUS broke their very recent precedent the 1000 yard from politician law would also be thrown out.

Knowing this King is breaking his oath to defend the Constitution by even bringing this up IMO.

I understand there were no police at Gifford's public event.

Given Sheriff Barney Fife Dupnik's rhetoric about how dangerous political rhetoric and Arizona's political climate have made things and given Dupnik's knowledge that Loughner had a history of making death threats ..... why wasn't there at least one deputy there?

Dupnik should go down to defeat in a hail of ballots next election.

where someone with evil intentions will know he is likely able to squeeze off a large number of rounds and not be in much danger of being stopped by a gun toting citizen.

This is exactly what happened at Ft Hood. You know a lot of the soldiers on base would have been armed if it had been allowed. I believe if they had been armed, the Major would never have done this.
