i would consider purchasing electric for shopping and getting around town, but i love extended road trips so the need will ALWAYS be there for a vehicle that gets 4 to 500 miles per tank If I was interested for an in-town car, I'd consider a Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit or possibly a Smart Car (assuming there is enough dealer support). I just did 570 miles to Seattle and back on 3/4 tank of gas. Of course, it was in my Suburban, which has a 42 gallon tank.
