Actually I should have given Reagan more credit for his intentions. I think that was the symbolism Obama was suggesting when he read Reagan's biography while on vacation over the holidays.

As I remembered it, it was a bipartisan effort. The bill was passed by 97 members of the Senate. Bill Bradly, the Democratic Senator, was a major driver. It can be argued that the Tax Reform Act of 1986 made the tax code more complex now than ever, created greater disparities, and in many ways caused the current economic mess.

But I will wait to hear the full debate that is forth coming.
