I'd probably not choose anyone who had been working for the State. My ideal candidate for any position would be a few successful years in business for themselves (have to meet a payroll, know what taxes mean to the business, etc), and then working successfully in a large (over 100 employee) business, for a few years. Then maybe depending on other background will I think they would be a good candidate.

Too many of the people who run for offices haven't been successful in their own, nor any other business as a requirement.
