The big problem Democrats have is their center is almost non-existent at this stage. The only one who comes to mind off the top of my head is Webb from Virginia.

I don't think Obama has or will move to the center. With the media supporting him, he'll attempt to appear to move toward the center, while blaming Republicans for not working with him and solving the nations problems etc. The initiatives and decisions he took during the lame duck sessions were made under the "get what we can now" mindset.

Where will the hard left go if Obama appears to move toward the center? Largely they will sit out frustrated and look for a new candidate. Politics is a religion with these people, but many will just opt out of politics for a while out of frustration.
