I'm no expert on the subject, but it never occurred to me that merely looking at someone's brain through an open scull would show signs of Alzheimer's. I have not heard this before.

There is no doubt that Alz can have a very gradual onset, but I say what of it?

Reagan was certainly in far better condition when his 8 years were up than FDR was when he was elected for the last time. Hell, they almost had to carry FDR onto the stage at the convention and he collapsed afterward. He was a walking dead man, but the public had no qualms with re-electing him.
