Cisco could have purchased ANET any time in the last 3 years.
Instead, it purchased Ardent Communications. Almost all the
voice talent is out of ACT. If Cisco buys ANET, Clinton and
Gore will have been impeached and Newt Gingrich will be
President. Cisco may buy a VoIP startup like Netspeak or
VocalTec. Cisco may buy someone with a VoATM solution like
Mariposa Technologies but I wouldn't bet on either stratey.
If anything, they will buy a company which has an innovative
call server product, e.g. Netspeak and some installed base,
e.g. VocalTec.
