This intrigued me so I did a quick Google. What I found was that women are more likely to a) murder for money, b) murder someone close to them through a well thought out means such as suffocation or poison, c) do so at 1/6 the rate and d) have detection rates are lower with women being free for 2 times as long as the 4 year average for males. Add to this a sense of "loss of control" that many men feel (rightly or wrongly) and disenfranchisement, you could say that men are acting more impulsively and with less well-considered action because of the sexual component (about half of serial killers are classified as having a sexual component).
