Do you know what % is wintelco? in your portfolio?

According to Brinker :
limit your investment not more then 4% of any given company
UNLESS you understand or work at the place, then you can have up to 10%.

I modified for myself to have

wintel > 10% but less then 20%

for other stocks(cpq, dell etc ) it should 5-10% .
as an example i did this for partial positons in dell.

for e.g.

i have dell40 due in 99 for which i paid $10 * 1000 = 10k.
i sold dell90 99 to some one i got $20 * 500 = 10k. (approx, don't remeber).
( i only straddle half of my dells)

i did this when dell was approx. 85. just recently.

So at this point i have put out $0 investment in delL for 500 dells.

in jan 99 some one will pay me $90 take dell from which i will pay $40.

input_to_me := 90*500 = $45000 in jan 99
output_from_me := 40*500 = 20k to own dell
output_from_me2 := 40*500 = 20k to buy dell for someone else.

so total output from me will be -5k to own dell free and clear for
rest of my life.
if dell tanks to 50-60 in near term, then i will buy back the $20
position that i sold. I did the same w. csco a day before they announced
as i thought it was overvalued at 50pe. So i sold covered call leaps.

sure enuf csco is loosing steam. i will not buy back any of these companies
unless i get them really cheap.

my timing was horrible on amat, i bot at 50 and sold at 40 oh well.
i wished i had done the same. amat is tempting now but could go lower.
remember, i told u something about amat a while back when it was
going great.

anyway, i m not perticularly attached to any of these companies except
wintel.

i have another new idea... there are several index paritcipation
securties you can buy they move up with index (russel, sp, dow etc)
but you have 0 down side.

seems like the only safe thing. i m trying to findout what could be
the disadvantage for such a thing.
