Poison and drugs are the leading choice of suicide attempters. But guns and explosives the leading choice of successful suicides. Those who really want the attention take a moderate overdose. Take away the guns and those who really want to kill themselves will probably take sleeping pills by the pill bottle, topped off with a quart of Jack Daniels.

I own guns myself, Dave. When the founders wrote the constitution, all guns were single shot muzzle loaders, and an irate citizen might challenge you to a duel, but he wasn't likely to just start randomly shooting strangers - he'd only get one shot off before being brought down.

I'd like to see a return to the assault rifle ban, only because it also banned high capacity magazines, for rifles AND pistols. Had that ban still been in place, a dozen people from recent massacres might be alive today. The ban DID help to limit the damage a crazy could do.
