You're right, we can't know that anything he used made him a paranoid schizophrenic.

However some folks are genetically predisposed to schizophrenia and use of certain things at an age when their brains are still developing can, in some cases, tip them over the edge. Sorry to have to say that. I will say its not everyone but only a small percent that are at risk of this and that at a certain period of development. Loughner might well have been exactly as he is no matter what he abused.

I will add we have a young person in our neighborhood that is schizophrenic and pretty much everyone who knows him thinks his teenage drug use contributed to it.
