Donald; I understand that the assorted intermetallics formed with tellurium, gold, silver report to the flux and get absorbed into the cupola. There are literally hundreds of these intermetallics.
Nickel and sulfur dissolve all platinum group metals and their sulfides as well as the tellurides. They all go into the NiS button which is then dissolved and the elements determined by AA or NA or XRF. It costs $100 per assay and takes 6 weeks at commercial labs, whereas a standard fire assay is under $10.
