I think that when Kennedy was killed, our world changed. Most of us, no matter what our politics were, were shocked to our core, that someone would or could kill a President of the United States. The news became a fixation.

And really, this time I think it was Gulf War I and CNN that started the 24 hour news cycle, and on 9/11, again the world changed.

I have no doubt that 24 hour news is largely responsible for the political rancor we see today.
