In theory and in reality, company management and founders can choose to walk away and leave the public shareholders with no legal claims to the assets of an operating entity.

Why can the owners juest walk away from the contractual obligation to give the revenues and earnings to the public shareholders? This presumes that all the contracts are completely unenforceable.
