Mao Tse-Tung's book "On Guerilla Warfare" is still taught at West Point. It may have been on a reading list but was not always taught. WP dropped guerrilla warfare, insurgency and counter-insurgency warfare from the curriculum in 1975. It was only reinstated a few years ago. That is why we have an entire generation of General Officers who do not know beans about what they are doing. Petraeus' new manual had one primary purpose...get the US Army on some solid footing. The problem now is the wars were fought wrong and there is neither the will, the time, the money, nor the blood for a do over.
