I have not had a class smaller than 35 this year. I teach in a portable- you can imagine how cramped it is, as I have the largest desks I could get (because many of my large athletic boys, or my heavy students, simply cannot fit in the smaller desks.) I never minded the never ending workload when I had around 100 students- I accepted it as part of the job. But at 140+ I don't want to do it. My husband doesn't even care if I work or not, but I really love teaching- so I'll go elsewhere. I actually think I might have a bigger impact on the younger kids. Sometimes I run in to children I taught in elementary as I teach high school- and they remember me, and liked my classes, so I will be fine where ever I teach. I just won't have the constant evening workload.
