You're correct. There's been a transformation of the wage structure since the 1980s with constant downward pressure. Airlines, steel, and of course whole industries that simply packed up and went offshore.

The causes are varied but this has been the net result.

The new twist is the resetting of the compensation for public employees. So far it varies from state to state, as you pointed out....some more, some less. It's very fluid, and what I find interesting is that the different approaches from one state to another are creating a kind of laboratory situation.

We're going to get to watch the theory of 'creative destruction' unfold in real time. :)
