This is certainly a good way to get a cheaper computer, but it means that you are stuck with whatever supporting functions (sound, video, modem etc.) that you originally put on the chip.

It would be a problem if you spent $3,000 on a system, but at $1,000 or below, it is not a problem. If you insist, you can plug-in stuff to PCI slots, but that's kind defeating the purpose of a Volks-Computer.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them introduce one for the very low end market one day.

Intel is fighting the trend tooth and nail. If Intel had a choice, such a chip would never see the light of day. But the market may force them to do it.
