I couldn't locate the article from the link and am now on the run. Will look later, though. Fannie and Freddie are a mess, and I have no ideas yet on how that debacle can ever make the taxpayer whole. What deeply ticks me off is that those organizations were seen by plenty of market folk as ticking time bombs. I think going back to the Clinton administration there were warnings about the accounting methods used, undercapitalization, etc. Long enough for thorough investigations to have been undertaken. Federal govt./Fan and Fred/the ratings agencies = an unholy alliance.
