Everything edict the government enforces is backed up with the threat of physical force. Not nice to think about maybe but that is reality.

Overpowering was probably too strong of a word as it implies physical force.

Overpowering was probably too strong of a word as it implies physical force. I was thinking in elective terms. For ex. voting in mass to deregulate past a point at which others, such as myself, might prefer to have some rules and regs.

There are different philosophies about the role of government in our lives.

This country was founded on the idea that the role of the government was to protect the rights of individuals.

Government regulations and programs that go outside of those parameters have the tendency to have unintended consequences. And end up not protecting anyone or having the intended end result.

Where it is a nobel desire to want to have everyone receive the greatest education possible, or to end world hunger or to ensure that lunatics or criminals don't kill or steal from people, further regulation or entitlement programs not only don't eliminate the bad actions, they don't solve the social problems.

So, outside of the fact that that these programs and regulations don't have the intended result, they also have what many libertarians consider to be unethical roots. And that is that in order to give something, you have to take it from someone. (someone on this thread recently pointed this out).

I think it is safe to say that many conservatives do feel that they...and the US Constitution have been overpowered by liberal/progressive ideals and we are just looking to remove policies/programs that ceased to protect our individual rights as defined in the US Constitution.

hence the "Taking Back America" motto
