Luntz had a live citizen panel on FOX after the address. I detected a much more serious tone than usual in their reaction to this speech. 13 out of the approx 30 participants had voted for Obama, and 7 said they'll do it again in 2012.

He only convinced 3 that he was serious about cutting govt spending. Most of them thought it was more or less the same language they'd been hearing for years from both sides of the isle and they didn't come away any more confident that things would change. I saw physical evidence of stress in the eyes and on the brows of the people on the panel.

I couldn't help but notice his speech was lacking in enthusiasm on his part and the response from the citizens in attendance was very measured. He was also speaking in a monotone, and that has a tendency to turn people off.

He didn't convince anyone he was in control, and other than his suggestion to reduce corporate taxes, it was boring boilerplate.

Tucker Carleson mentioned that Obama went approx 4586 words long before uttering the word "debt" choosing instead to talk about programs that rely on spending. This is the crux of the matter. Americans are in no mood to finance an ideology that is destroying their way of life.

More needs to be done, but Paul Ryan went a long way towards educating the public. My wish is he that he, and the republican party keeps it up.
