Ted, in Obama's SOTU speech, Korea was mentioned seven times, China four times, and India three times.

Japan was not mentioned at all. Interesting, considering Japan is #3 behind China in terms of GDP.

Japan's economy is pretty much moribund. The economies of China, India and to a lesser extent Korea are much more dynamic and growing. I suspect Japan won't be third for much longer. India probably will take over in the next 10 years. Even Germany's economy is growing faster than Japan's........and currently, Germany is 4th in size after Japan. When you think back to Japan's place in the late 80s/early 90s, its amazing how far Japan has fallen.
