Obviously, scientists are doing studies, and have come up with new tracking devices, but I'm with you. For all I know, this could be typical.......or maybe not........but I doubt the author has knowledge of this particular bear's habits. I think this writer has an agenda, and I need further evidence that:

Polar bear swam nine days straight in search of ice

Did the guy track this bear for nine whole days in a boat? Did he get his information from a tracking device? Do tracking devices also calculate the amount of ice in a given area? Do they distinguish between ice, water, land? (I don't think so!)
