Stephen / Kerm / All / Ethics To me this is a black & white issue, when an officer of a publicly traded corporation answers questions whether written or spoken, they are giving information that is or will be made public so all shareholders and potential investors can be treated equally. The reason company officials have to talk to shareholders is because we actually own the company as a collective group and we can vote them in or not, and it's in their best interest. I would not expect a company official to give me insider information, if they do then they are acting illegally since they have given me preferential treatment. They can't act on this information without security regulators jumping all over them, so why should I be able to act on it. Lets say for example I called CND 88 just before their announced intentions for Morrison Petroleum and Greg Noval says since your an enterprising investor I'll let you in on a little secret etc. Who is breaking the law here, Greg for revealing the takeover or me for investing in Morrison. Maybe my investment in Morrison was for their merits alone and not because of what Greg told me. Now we all know that insider information takes place all the time and as long as is it not overly abusive regulators let it go, how can they stop workers on a drilling drew from passing very encouraging results to their friends and family, even if the company has the well under lock & key. How can you stop the miners at Voisey Bay from calling friends & loved ones when they see the drill core has visible nickel. Or how can you explain the movement in stocks the day before a takeover of merger is announced, "magic", "telepathy", lawyers and brokers are human and when they have a "gimme" they take it. If a company states that the information is for you personally, then I would question their ethics and as far as I'm concerned they can't prevent you from distributing the information to others, by the way that's how analyst make their living. Cheers & Good investing
