I haven't invested in the LED industry, but I am considering it. In the long run, the technology seems likely to replace CF and incandescent.

But I don't think costs have come down enough, for LEDs to be more than a niche market yet. The article you posted didn't say anything about price or manufacturing cost. If CREE's bulb costs $30-$50, how long will it take for the cost savings in electricity use, to equal the higher up-front costs? That's the equation that matters.

The other question I have, is whether the equipment makers (AIXG, VECO) will be better investments than CREE.
