VVV is an act of will. A choice to be made. Just as Pinnochio had to choose to NOT go to Pleasure Island or he'd grow long donkey ears etc. The seduction of hedonism is alluring. The wise pig built his house of brick while another made one of wood and one of straw. The Big Bad Wolf blew down the straw one and wooden one. The wise man built his house upon the rock. The foolish upon the sand.

The normal human tradition is for one generation to make the money through imagination, effort for years. By the third, there is a sense of entitlement and dissolution sets in all too often.

The genes which are passed along are chimpoid limbic system genes. Those lend themselves to hanging out in the jungle, drinking fizzy rotten grape juice with bits of gold in it, chasing girls and generally behaving like a chimp. We do have genes which can manifest VVV but we have to choose to do that and deny our earlier millions of years of primate experience.

It's our minds which perform the VVV. Our minds must voluntarily be brought to bear. We must want to have VVV though they mean pleasures are denied. Which is not to say that denying pleasure is inherently a good thing [or we might as well join the Taleban who enjoy a good stoning but no music and the simple pleasures of life. -There is a balance between the ascetic life and the aesthetic life. VVV is getting that right.
