Gary,

Again we are talking about hypothetical situation that this bug was in P-Pro generation. Some of these systems are designed for multiuser, "mission critical" operations.

Do you think New York Stock exchange would buy these systems to run trillions of dollars in transactions if they were so volnurable?

This bug is less of a problem in Pentium because Pentiums are mainly used by single end-users. If the end-user computer dies, it is usually not a disaster. But if your NT, Novell or Unix server dies, it can cause serious problems.

Bringing these systems back up is not just flipping the on/off switch. You have to repair disk volumes, restore pending transactions not posted etc. Serious loss of productivity.

Joe

Fujitsu hopes to use Intel chips
By Reuters
November 13, 1997, 5:30 a.m. PT

Fujitsu (FJTSY) said today that that it hopes to develop high-power servers that incorporate Intel (INTC) semiconductor chip technology as well as its own.

A Fujitsu spokesman said that the company hopes to integrate Intel's microprocessors with its own Interconnect technology, which would allow a 100-fold increase in the number of microprocessors that can be connected in a single system.

Six to eight microprocessors can be connected in an existing system, the spokesman said.

Fujitsu also hopes to introduce servers equipped with the next-generation Merced microprocessor, currently being developed by Intel and Hewlett-Packard (HWP).

The new 64-bit microprocessor is expected to hit the market in 1999, an Intel spokeswoman said.

The Fujitsu spokesman said, however, that the company has yet to clinch a deal with Intel.
