Gary - Re: "BTW, Intel did tell us that they captured 90% of this so called 'sub-1000' market."

Intel stated that they had 90% market share for PC's selling between $900 and $999.

They (Intel) also stated that their market share was "only" 65% for PCs selling BELOW $900.

It is important to remember that Intel also stated that they earned $1.57 BILLION last quarter.

AMD and Cyrix earned "somewhat" less.

Remember our talk about the 'sub-1000' ? I asked you to analyse the situation and come up with some 'ball-park' and you never did that.

BTW, Intel did tell us that they captured 90% of this so called 'sub-1000' market.

I remember. I think I came up with with some information about US retail, but I didn't have enough information about the rest of US market and the rest of the world.

Although I think Intel has the majority of sub $1,000 market, I don't think it can be 90%. Since Intel's overall market share is probably less than 90%, and Intel has 100% of Servers, and overwhelming majority of high end market, (probably > 90%) so there are not enough units left to make 90% in sub-$1,000 market.

As far as units shipped, AMD claims that they shipped 1.9M, 1M of K6 and .9K of K5 and 486.
Cyrix shipped 1.3M units.
Intel shipped about 21M (correct me if I am wrong)

So overall market shares are:
Intel: 86.7%
AMD: 7.8%
Cyrix: 5.3%

If you want a ballpark figure, I would say Intel share of sub-$1,000 computers is 75% to 80%
