Perhaps, but the tourists who walked over what is now the Bering Sea got trapped in a high rent area. I would be curious to see your calculation of the thickness of No. American glaciation. Most "experts" say 700-800 m tops, and that was only over the northern half of the US. Antarctica is bigger.

PS - Would an ice age human population be acceptable to you ? It would be hard to order a latte in that situation, not to mention increading IPOD sales.

as long as antarctica is located over the south pole we won't see land.

And as long as antarctica is located over the south pole we will be locked in a glacial/inter-glacial cycle with the glacial (ice age) periods dominating.
